Toothbrush Care

Posted .

Brushing your teeth is such a frequent need that the habit can become mindless. While having a toothbrushing habit is a very good thing, occasionally we need to brush up on our brushing to make sure we are giving our teeth and gums the very best treatment we can.

Soft-bristled toothbrushes are the best for your teeth. Brushes with hard bristles can be rough to your teeth and potentially weaken tooth enamel. Also, look for brushes that fit easily into your mouth for a deep clean. You can always ask your dentist for product recommendations! Or, look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance on specially marked boxes. This seal from the American Dental Association guarantees you are getting a quality product that is safe and effective.

If you choose to decline the traditional toothbrush, electric toothbrushes are also highly useful! Some even come with timers, to ensure you are getting your full two minutes of teeth-cleaning in every session.

Toothbrushes that are dirty should no longer be used. This includes if you choose to share your toothbrush with another person. Don’t do that. Toothbrush sharing leads to serious cross-contamination of toothbrushes, sharing bacteria from person to person and rendering the toothbrush and the toothbrush time thoroughly ineffective. The same can occur when toothbrushes touch. Always try to store your toothbrush separately from other brushes in a well-ventilated area free of contamination. Remember to replace your brush at least every three to four months.

Keeping your teeth clean ensures bacteria and harmful acids will not be able to damage your smile. To schedule your professional cleaning at Rocky Ridge Dental Associates with Dr. Roy A.
