Common Questions about Dental Bridges

Posted .

Has your dentist, Dr. Roy A. Smith, III, told you that it’s time to get a dental bridge? Are you wondering what that means for you? Look no further.

A bridge is an oral appliance that is permanently attached to your gumline which serves as a substitute for one or more missing teeth. It is anchored to your mouth with the help of two crowns that are placed over the top of teeth adjacent to the gap.

Depending on your situation, the process of getting a dental bridge may vary, but this is the overall idea:

At the first appointment, Dr. Roy A. Smith, III will remove the enamel structure of the teeth that will hold the crowns. Impressions of your teeth will be taken and the dental bridge will be created in a dental laboratory. We will give you a temporary bridge to wear while your permanent bridge is made.

At the second appointment, the permanent bridge will be fitted and cemented onto your teeth.
